While conducting drivers training, Engine 614s crew took time to clear weed over growth out from around a fire hydrant.
Having clear visible fire hydrants allows departments to ‘spot’ the hydrant and be able to access it without delaying having water to fight a fire.
During the snowy months, we ask that if you have a fire hydrant infront of your house that you clear 3 feet of snow in all directions.
In the warm spring & summer months, grass, bushes and weeds grow and can delay us finding the closest one to the fire. Over growth also gives insects, bees, and other types of life a place to nest that could possibly be dangerous to some firefighters.
