Sherley “Champ” Powers age 83 years of Thorofare died Sunday January 29, 2017 in his home. Champ was born in Salem and lived in Thorofare for over forty years. He retired after working as a truck driver for West Deptford Township for many years. He was a former member of Paulsboro Fire Association and an exempt member of Thorofare Volunteer Fire Company where he served as a past secretary. He was also the past secretary of the Gloucester County Firemen’s Association and a member of West Deptford Township Senior Citizens Club. Champ enjoyed bowling and listening to country music, especially Loretta Lynn.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Bryan of Naples, Florida; his son, Tom Powers of Hancocks Bridge; his niece, Debbie and Vince Wentzell of Woodstown; his sisters, Millie Rahrer of Rosman, North Carolina and Ginny McCauley of Carney’s Point; his brother, Sonny Davis of Indiana; 5 stepsons and many grandchildren. Mr. Powers was predeceased by his wife, Lois Powers, his sons, Harry, Bobby and Sonny Powers, his daughter, Shirley Powers and his mother, Marguerite Powers.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday February 2, 2017 in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 West Broad Street, Paulsboro.
